A Great Day at Gardendale Elementary!

GranFran and I had so much fun returning to Gardendale Elementary, where I was Librarian for 13 years, and seeing "My Kids" for an author visit! Thanks to Elizabeth Lochamy, their new and very capable Librarian, for inviting us!

The time machine took us back to 1942!

My mom, Dr. Fran Carter, was a "real live Rosie" in WW II. She and I wrote this informational text together in a fun ABC format so it can be a great resource for classrooms, libraries, and homes. Winner of a 2015 Indie Excellence Awards gold medal.

Honoring Our Veterans!

My father, a great storyteller, wrote his stories about being a paratrooper in the invasion of southern France. I added photos, memorabilia from the war, and quick facts to make this nonfiction resource for kids! Winner of a 2015 Benjamin Franklin Awards gold medal.

Here's a blast from the past - my mom, Dr. Fran Carter, wrote this book in 1957 and now it is presenting manners for a whole new generation! Click on book to order from Premiere Press. Also available through Amazon.

Need help telling a story to young children?

I had a blast writing this teacher resource that is published by WMU. It has tons of ideas for telling Bible stories, missions stories, or at-home stories! If you lead VBS, Sunday School, Mission Friends, or if you are a teacher, librarian, pastor, or parent, I had you in mind! Click on book to order from WMU.

From a World War II Patatrooper

This book of humorous and poignant stories was written by my dad, Dr. John T. Carter, about his day-to-day experiences in the 1944 invasion of southern France, 2 months after D-Day. Click on book to order from Premiere Press. Also available through Amazon.

About Me

Nell Branum: Alabama, United States; Hello and welcome to my blog! I am a former elementary school library media specialist and a writer of fiction and nonfiction books for children. I think the history of our great United States is indeed a present to us, and I love to connect readers to wonderful stories of America's past - especially to World War II, and especially to that fabulous group of women on the WW II homefront known as "Rosie the Riveter"!
